Whittier Multicultural Belonging Group FAQ
What is the Multicultural Belonging Group?
We are a welcoming community of Whittier families with international, immigrant, multilingual or multicultural backgrounds.
Whether you are new to the US or have lived here for years, our group is a place to meet other families, share experiences, support each other and celebrate the different cultures that make up our school community.
What do we do?
Our group focuses on three goals:
- Connect: Meet other families, make friends and exchange experiences.
- Support: Help each other navigate Whittier, the US school system and life between cultures.
- Represent: Share our cultures, traditions and perspectives to help make Whittier a more inclusive community.
What kind of activities do we organize?
Some examples of our activities and ideas for this school year:
- Informal gatherings
- A buddy system connecting new families with experienced Whittier families
- Sharing cultural traditions, celebrations and recipes with the school community
- Helping families navigate school life and bringing their needs and ideas to the PTA
Who can join?
Any Whittier family with an international, immigrant, multilingual or multicultural background, or anyone raising children across cultures. Our members come from many different cultural backgrounds.
What’s expected of me?
Nothing! Join in whenever and however you like. We meet informally about four times a year and stay connected through WhatsApp and email. You are welcome to attend gatherings, ask questions, share ideas or help organize activities, but there is no obligation.
